Preventing The Most Common Workplace Injuries

|

To follow up on our last piece, The Most Common Workplace Injuries, we thought some nice supplemental material could focus on the best steps to take if you want to prevent them.

  • Violence

There is a plethora of information available online regarding the prevention of workplace violence. Some of the best advice available centers around having an established code of conduct, as well as organized training and awareness sessions.

  • Machine-related Injuries

Machines and technology turn the wheels of modern manufacturing. The most important thing workers can do when they work with them is protect themselves by making sure they are wearing safety equipment. The most important thing an employer can do to keep these workers safe is to provide proper safety training.

  • Vehicular Injuries

Preventing vehicular injuries, especially as they pertain to open-road driving, may not be 100% fool-proof. However, there are steps those who operate vehicles can take to make sure they keep themselves safe. Some of the best practices are ensuring there are no pedestrians at risk of being hit or run over. When on the road, drivers should make sure their vehicles are up to spec in terms of legal safety regulations. Drivers should also mind the weather and always be sober.

  • Repetitive Motion Injuries

There are a few ways to prevent a repetitive motion or repetitive strain injury. The best way to do this is to take breaks while working; don’t repeat the same motion for hours on end! Also, stretch before and during the activities.

  • Reactionary Injuries

These are tricky in terms of prevention, specifically because many different injuries are usually lumped into the reactionary category. Nonetheless, the best preventative measure is preparation: make sure what you are doing is safe. Likewise, make sure the area in which you are about to begin working is safe.

  • Falling Object Injuries

These injuries can be prevented by taking a look around an area before you enter it. Make sure, especially in a busy environment, that there is nothing loose or dangling from a high place. If you are working high up off the ground, take steps to make sure everything around you is secure.

  • Falling Injuries

To prevent falling injuries, make sure you are properly harnessed and that you have a spotter when you are elevated. Also, do not take any chances when it comes to heights: Do not try to run quickly across a beam or jump from one place to another.

  • Slipping Injuries

We’ve all seen the Caution: Wet Floor signs. If you see one of those, use caution. However, a good way to prevent slipping is to take your time when walking – don’t run. Keep your eyes in front of you and you’ll notice anything that looks wet or slippery.

And remember, if you have been injured on the job and you need a worker’s compensation lawyer in Atlanta, GA, or one of its surrounding regions, give us a call!
