As the population grows at rapid speeds, so does our need for infrastructure. As a result, construction sites are as booming as ever, and that’s a good thing for builders who work on them.
Sure, job security is great…if you’re able to work.
In other words, construction sites are inherently dangerous, and the injury rates that occur on them are high. With the growing need for society to build, and build and build, safety oversights are far more common than some contractors care to admit. Because for many of them, if it takes ignoring their workers’ safety to ensure turning high profits quickly, then so be it.
If you’re looking for a work injury lawyer in Atlanta because of a recent jobsite mishap, give me a call and I’ll be happy to assist you with a complimentary consultation, where we’ll be able to discuss your case and options in detail.
However, I’d rather you don’t get injured in the first place, so take a look at these tips to help prevent construction site injuries:
Equipment Operators: Climb on Those Machines Carefully
The most common injuries for equipment operators occur while they’re climbing in and out of their machines. Use extreme caution when doing so! Always wear gripped gloves, and look out for slippery situations. Use both hands. Don’t be holding objects when you’re climbing.
If You’re Not Contributing, Get Out Of That Area
If you’re taking a break, don’t stand around dangerous areas. Get away from machines that are in use, or generally active spaces that you’re not involved in. By standing next to, say, that excavator, you’re putting yourself in an unnecessarily dangerous situation. Take your breaks in a safe zone!
Make Sure Scaffolding Isn’t Faulty
Falls from scaffolding are too common. Make sure the scaffolds you’re using are in working order, and sufficient enough to safely bear the weight of all the workers using them at once. Be sure that loose objects aren’t holding their weight. Finally, be sure that the scaffolding has its proper railings installed.
Other safety precautions you can take are to use the right equipment, be careful on ladders and stairways, be wary of potential trench collapses, be mindful of a crane’s swing radius and most importantly, communicate with your fellow workers!
These steps are the just the beginning of way in which you can ensure your safety on a construction site. They’re a good start, but aren’t intended to be the only measures you follow! In the unfortunate event that you do get injured on the job, and you need to get in touch with a skilled workers’ comp attorney in Atlanta, don’t hesitate to give me a call immediately.
But hopefully I don’t hear from you because you’re safe and sound on the job! Thanks for all your hard work, and happy building!
