The Safest Vehicles to Own

|

We all want nothing but the best for our families and children. We want to raise our kids in the safest neighborhoods. We strive to send them to the best schools. To teach them how to succeed. To eat right and stay healthy, and so on. Thus, keeping them out of harm’s way is our priority, and the most important thing we can do.

Therefore, when we buy cars, the number one consideration we take into account as parents is safety. When it comes to our kids, leather interiors, flashy rims and the best sound systems all take the back seat—if you will—to how they perform in accidents.

While we hope to never get in car wrecks, the cold hard truth is: They could happen to anyone. Even if you’re the world’s most cautious and safest driver, you never know who you’re sharing the road with.

Many people know me as Atlanta’s work injury lawyer, but I also deal heavily in automobile accident law. So, without further ado, let’s go over the safest cars available on the market these days (by class):

Small Cars

My top choice for the small car category is the Mazda3: They have an overall 5-star rating, and perform exceptionally well in crash tests. Best of all, they’re affordable. These cars fall into the roughly $17,000 to $25,000 range, and beyond safety are known for their reliability. Their frontal crash rating has 5 stars, a 5-star side crash rating and a 4-star rollover rating. They also come stock with a slew of safety features like airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes and child safety locks.

Midsize Cars

For this category, I picked the trusty Honda Accord: With a 5-star overall rating, 4 stars for frontal crash, 5-stars for side crash and 5-stars for rollover, the Honda Accord is one of the safest cars you can drive, bar none. They get a “good” rating for safety on all fronts by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and come loaded with a plethora of added features like auto-on headlights, airbags and 4-wheel ABS.

Small SUVs

The FIAT 500X is my choice for small SUVs: FIATs only made their way across the pond into the American marketplace several years ago, but they’ve been lauded by drivers who want protection ever since. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave them “good” marks on the whole— in moderate overlap, small overlap, side impact, rear crash and roof strength. Much like the other vehicles to make this list, FIAT 500Xs come with a long list of extra safety features, like night vision, brake assist and a rollover protection system.

Midsize SUVs

I chose the Toyota Highlander as the best midsize SUV out there: The Highlander comes in a standard or a hybrid version, for the environmentally conscious. Best of all, its safety has not been compromised for the sake of mother nature. The NHTSA’s tests resulted in nothing but 4 and 5-star ranks in overall rating, frontal crash, side crash and rollover. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s results were similar, giving it all “good” ranks. Some of its extras include a blind spot monitor, night vision and traction control, among many other features.

Keep in mind, these are just my picks. There are many other similarly safe vehicles on the roadways out there! When it comes to picking the right one, just do your research and I’m sure you’ll find the safest car that suits your lifestyle.

And, in the unfortunate event that you do need the assistance of a qualified accident or workman’s comp lawyer, don’t hesitate to touch base and set up a complimentary consultation.

Safe travels!
